about

"Hall of Minerals" is a love song dedicated to my late cat Brix (August 28, 2003 - September 19, 2020). It weaves in images from a dream I had in December 2019. I recorded dozens of takes of the song, and this is the demo I ultimately went with—captured at night, in the dark, in my bathroom: an unembellished recording whose soul, I hope, is perceptible.

lyrics

In what way was I
Trying to control the sky
As it fell on me, I felt
My spine

Who am I
Crying in the field at night
A hall of minerals
Whose loss is fluid

I get so fucking bright
I atone
Beneath the potted tree
Where the cat ceased and left me
Alone

You looked into me
And my name ceased to be
Outside the window
The ocean blue and viral

Laps repeatedly
As I perform a gesture
Of mutuality
Building a shelter

In the light

Both the blood on the amethyst—and the photograph of the blood on the amethyst—come from me too. It was an accident.
